What’s new in v4.6?
N2W keeps evolving. In this release we’re adding new features that are helping to secure and optimize the modern workloads and changing needs of our users. These version updates not only enhance resiliency in both AWS and Azure, they will provide more options for Multicloud and cross-cloud backup and recovery, more visibility into how to protect your resources and help you save even more on storage costs.
AWS Enhancements
EKS Cross-region and Cross-account Backup & Recovery
Enhancing our Kubernetes solution is crucial, it being one of the fastest growing services on the cloud. As simple as EKS makes our day-to-day, backup and recovery is still a challenge. Our initial phase in v4.5 provided native backup and DR for Kubernetes resources, namespaces and persistent volumes and gave customers the ability to provide policy-driven backup under a single console with their other AWS and Azure services. In this version we now support more complex use cases and improve overall user experience.
Cross-Region / Cross-Account Backup allows backup policies to replicate and restore data across multiple regions and/or accounts giving optimal protection against regional outages, ransomware and other cloud disruptions.
Our Kubernetes customers recognize that the dynamic components of their systems are at risk of corruption or accidental deletion without the right protection in place. With our solution, they can confidently back up and restore Amazon EKS across isolated environments, significantly reducing downtime risk and strengthening overall system resilience.
Enhanced Zero-EBS/Managed Disk
Currently, when configuring a lifecycle policy (copying to a storage repository whether it be S3 Standard, Infrequent Access, S3 Glacier or Azure Blob), customers have the option to delete the original snapshot which can result in significant cost savings. Not holding backup data in the snapshot service means enormous budget relief for so many of our customers (as can be seen on our storage repository TCO calculators for AWS and Azure).
Zero EBS/Managed Disk has been enhanced by allowing to choose to delete the snapshot only after a successful backup into your chosen storage repository. Customers now have enhanced security along with major savings.
Azure Enhancements
Azure Cost Optimization & Intelligent Blob Tiering
N2W is known to help significantly with cost optimization using cheaper repository tiering. We’ve helped organizations for years now save big by streamlining archivals to colder storage tiers in AWS including Standard S3, Infrequent Access, Glacier Deep Archive and Glacier Instant Retrieval.
For Azure customers, previous versions added Azure Blob Hot Storage but we knew that backup admins need the flexibility to select even colder storage, particularly those that are mandated to keep backups for very long periods of time.
N2W now supports tiering to Hot, Cool and Cold Azure Blob tiers when lifecycling in an Azure policy. Having the ability to streamline backup storage for long and complex retention policies will ensure organizations can keep their storage costs under control, plus ensure compliance with recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO).
VNet Backup for Azure
It’s not only resources that need to be backed up and restored. A healthy recovery is contingent on your cloud environment’s connectivity. In Azure environments, admins lack an easy way to capture and replicate network configurations for backup and restore. Manual processes are error-prone and time consuming, increasing recovery time and the risk of misconfiguration. We’ve had our popular AWS VPC Capture & Clone feature and knew we needed to expand that to Azure Vnets.
VNet Backup for Azure enables cloning of captured configurations into new or existing Azure subscriptions for disaster recovery or testing. Users can enable or disable network capture, run cloning on a schedule, and manually capture and edit configurations using Azure Resource Manager (ARM). Captures will be stored with timestamps and users can view previous captures and logs.
Unified Multicloud Account
In order for a true, seamless multicloud platform to work, we knew we had to eliminate any internal complexity for customers using both AWS and Azure. Azure (which uses a subscription based model) and AWS (uses an account based model) aren’t, by default, treated exactly the same way in most platforms, making onboarding and configuration confusing.
In this new version, Azure accounts have been restructured so each account represents a single subscription, aligning with the AWS model. Authentication details have been moved into a reusable Azure Security Principle which can be shared across multiple accounts. Policies and operations inherit scope from the account making cross subscription behavior explicit and consistent.
Platform-Wide Enhancements
Global Protection Governance Dashboard
Cloud customers often struggle with identifying which of their resources are protected by backup policies and which are not. This lack of visibility can lead to unintentional exposure to data loss due to unprotected resources, reduced trust in the platform’s ability to safeguard critical infrastructure, and onboarding friction as new users struggle to assess their backup coverage quickly.
N2W now has a brand new dashboard visualization which displays the number of protected vs unprotected resources across all connected cloud accounts. This feature brings out any backup coverage gaps, helping our customers understand where they stand from a protection overview. A generated report can drill down and show a complete picture of what should be being protected across AWS and Azure, and can be broken down into backup targets and storage repositories.
Customers can also see if Compliance Lock as well as Immutability Type has been added to their policies, understanding where holes in their ransomware protection may occur:
Quick Start Guide for New Customers
Great news for brand new clients (but not only)! We have a brand new guide withinour UI which runs through how to create an account, policy, schedule, how use DR and other must-see features. This 12 step guide takes you through a product journey that allows you to get to know N2W and how to use our core functionalities.
